While there is no definitive answer to the question of how intelligent chinchillas are, experts believe that they are likely to have high IQs. This is based on their ability to learn new things and their playful, curious nature.
Chinchillas make great pets for people who are looking for intelligent, affectionate animals.
How to test your pet’s intelligence
If you are wondering how smart your pet chinchilla is, there are a few ways to test their intelligence. One way is to see how well they can learn new things. Chinchillas are very curious animals, and they love to explore new things.
You can test your chinchilla’s intelligence by giving them a new toy to play with or teaching them a new trick. Another way to test your chinchilla’s intelligence is to see how they react to different situations.
Chinchillas are very curious animals, and they are quick to notice anything new in their environment. If you introduce a new object into their cage, for example, you will likely see them inspecting it closely and trying to figure out what it is.
Chinchillas are also known for their problem-solving abilities. If you give your chinchilla a puzzle toy, you can see how quickly they are able to figure it out.
The short answer is that you could teach a chinchilla tricks, but it’s extremely hard, because their sassy-ness means it’s up to them on whether they want to do the trick or not!
Their smartness is more like a toddler: you can teach them the rules (of the house lol), but you still have to watch constantly because they think the rules don’t apply to them sometimes!
(It’s absolutely hilarious watching them think about whether they want to do a no no thing or not, but my boy also knows he’s in no danger from me, even when being told off!)
My own chinchilla
I have a chinchilla that I adore. I named her Chloe. I constantly wonder about her IQ and try to figure out how to test it.
I’ve tried giving her puzzles to solve, but she just chews on the pieces. I’ve tried teaching her tricks, but she’s a naughty little thing and won’t always do what I want. She’s like a toddler in that you can teach them the rules, but you still have to watch them carefully.
But despite all of her mischief, I love Chloe dearly and am fascinated by her intelligence. She is always surprising me with her cleverness. I can’t help but wonder just how smart she really is.
I continue to test her IQ in different ways, and I am convinced that she is one of the smartest chinchillas out there. Someday, I hope to find out for sure just how intelligent she really is. Until then, I will just enjoy watching her grow and learn.
